Development as a teacher

The combination of the subject ICT 410 and the challenge of incorporating ICT's and technology in my classroom during teaching practice 1 and 2 has taught me so much. I have been able to grow in my skills and knowledge of ICT's and I have been able to struggle as I try to apply them in a faced paced, challenging environent. I believe that this is a vital area in which I need to continue to grow and learn and keep up with new tools and to ensure that I become the best teacher for my learners. I am not only better equipped in terms of my beliefs and opinions regarding the use of various technologies in the classroom but I have developed in my identity as a teacher through the use of ICT's.

General reflections

As much as I feel I have learnt a lot regarding the use of ICT's in the classroom I know that I am not yet completely comfortable with it. I have a whole lot still to learn and I need to become more comfortable using a lot of the ICT's and technologies which I have now been exposed to. I have however learnt to adapt within different school contexts and seen how different teachers use ICT's in different ways and for various purposes. I have also been afforded the opportunity to see how different learners respond to learning through ICT's both positively and negatively and I have been able to see how lifeless teaching can be when lecturers fail to make use of their resources. Overall, the combination of the above factors have taught me so much!

Ability

As I have mentioned before, I believe that the ability of learners and student teachers to use ICT's and technology appropriately and accurately is one of the main reasons that so many schools today, still do not access the resources available to them . That is not to say that learners and students are not able to learn. They are , if they want to and see the value in it. However, the current lack of skills and both computer and technological literacy which is found among learners in schools and students at the university is not only shocking but causes a real dilemma in motivating them to engage in unfamiliar content.
